Do I require proof of vaccination or a vaccine passport to visit the library?
Proof of vaccination is not required to visit any Waterloo Public Library location or to participate in in-person, indoor programs.

In-person program registrants will receive an email from the programmer in advance to explain our safety protocols for in-person programming. All participants should self screen for COVID-19 symptoms before participating and should not attend if they are feeling unwell.

Do I need to book a WiFi or study seat in advance of visiting the library?

You do NOT need to book a WiFi or study seat in advance of visiting the library. These spaces are available on a first come, first served basis.

Are study rooms available?
Study rooms are available at our John M. Harper Branch and must be booked in advance, with a maximum of 2 people per room. You can book a study room online here or you can call us at 519-886-1310 ext 310
Is public seating available at the library? Can I sit and read a book?
Lounge & common seating areas are currently available at all of our WPL locations on a first come, first serve basis.
How are you ensuring the safety of customers and staff?

The health and safety of our staff and our customers is our top priority. Here are the measures we are taking:

  • Face masks and sanitizer available for customers as needed
  • Staff training on safety measures
Do I have to wear a mask when I come to the library?

In accordance with both the Province of Ontario's latest announcements, masks are NOT required when visiting the library.

How do I return items to the library?

Items can be returned through interior return drop boxes during library hours or through the external returns slots which are available at all locations 24/7. Hotspots, board games and borrowed program kits which must be returned directly to staff during library hours.

How long do we get to borrow items for?
Most items will have a loan period of 3-weeks. See the full listing of loan periods here.

While no overdue fines are currently being charged, we do ask that you return overdue library materials.

Holds pick up time is 3 days. You will receive a notification when your hold is ready.
Are you still fine free?
We are indeed! There are currently no overdue fines at WPL.
